Bana Besu Feeding Project

Lunch time at Bana Besu
The children of Bana Besu each receive one balanced meal a day. The three cooks do a great job and the meals are first class!  The meal comprises a starch (nshima-maize), protein (eg chicken, dried fish) and a vegetable (eg local spinach, beans) Monday to Friday in school term time.

The global economic recession has had a significant impact on Bana Besu. In 2009 and 2010 food prices soared making it difficult to make ends meet. In particular green vegetables and meat have unstable prices. Sour milk with nshima (maize) has been introduced to the diet in 2010 and this is proving popular with the children.
